Taking part in a first aid course could be one of the most rewarding things that you do. This type of course will give you the knowledge and skills to respond and deliver life-saving care in an emergency.
It may be unlikely that you ever find yourself in a situation like that, however, those skills and knowledge are extremely valuable in everyday life. EMCARE’s basic or level 1 first aid course has been designed for people who have no previous skills or knowledge on the subject of first aid.
We don’t expect you to arrive knowing anything, we know that this might be your first time learning about these life-saving skills.
The first aid course involves two parts, knowledge and skills training.
This part of the first aid course will usually be taught first. It focuses on what first aid and CPR is. We will also look at breathing, bleeding, burns, bites, broken bones, blows, and choking. You will also be taught how and when to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
This part of the course involves a lot of participation. This is when you will learn how to administer first aid correctly. Here real-life scenarios will be discussed, and application examples will be demonstrated.
You will learn how to enter and assess a scene, how to perform CPR on infants and adults, how to treat injuries, and you can learn how to use an AED. These courses will give you the confidence to perform the necessary life-saving tasks when necessary.
EMCARE’s first aid course level 1 takes two days to complete, while our basic first aid / first aid refresher course is only one day. The level of the course will depend on its duration. The higher the level of training, the longer the course will be.
Our first aid level 2 course is three days long and our level 3 course is four days long. We also offer a specific CPR and AED course which is only four hours long. If you would like to take part in any of these courses, contact us to get more information.
Not many people have first aid training. Luckily this is improving as many businesses send their staff for a first aid course. EMCARE is the perfect place for your staff to learn first aid.
We will teach them the basics of first aid and later they can learn more advanced first aid. Here is a short seven-step action plan that should be used during emergencies.
If you are in an emergency, the first thing you need to look out for is additional danger. For example, if there has been a car accident, check for fuel coming out of the car. This can be very dangerous to you, the people involved and bystanders.
After the danger assessment has been completed, you’ll have to check if the injured individuals are responsive. Can they answer questions and are they cooperating with you?
Call for help – the next most important step. Call 10111 or 10177. These are the numbers that should be called during emergencies.
Now it is time to start the first aid process. Check if the injured person is breathing and check if their airways are obstructed. If the person is responsive and their airways are clear, you’ll need to decide what your course of action is going to be.
What course of action should you take? However, if the person is unresponsive, open their mouth, and tilt their head back a little – if their airways aren’t obstructed. If their airways are obstructed, move them onto their side and get rid of what’s in their airway.
If the injured person is breathing, then you can skip the next few steps. If the person is unconscious, look if their chest is moving and whether they’re breathing or not. Then turn them onto their side and align their head, spine, and neck. Wait for emergency services to arrive.
If the person is not breathing, CPR should be administered. This procedure can restore breathing by using chest compressions as well as artificial ventilation.
When administered correctly and as quickly as possible after an accident, CPR can double and, in some cases, triple survival rates. CPR is one of the most important skills you’ll learn during your first aid course with EMCARE.
AED (automated external defibrillator) is used in public spaces and is used by people who have been trained to. The automated external defibrillator is used when someone is unconscious and isn’t breathing.
An electrical current is used to “shock” the heart to get the heart back to a regular heartbeat. In these situations, individuals are more likely to survive if bystanders have been trained to use an AED and if they can correctly administer first aid.
If you would like to be trained to help people during these types of situations, contact EMCARE. We will ensure that you receive the best possible training through our first aid course.
